Matsumoto KiYoshi to open its first shop abroad in Thailand

Updated: Sep 1, 2019

BANGKOK, October 2015.

Japan’s largest drugstore, Matsumoto Kiyoshi, formed a j-v with Thai Central Food Retail, in order to open its stores in Thailand. The move marks Matsumoto Kiyoshi first international expansion ever.

Central Food Retail Co., the largest supermarket chain in Thailand with around 150 branches, will have a 51 per cent stake in the joint venture, with Matsumoto Kiyoshi holding the remainder of shares.

The first branch will be opened at Central Plaza Ladprao, offering commodities and beauty products from Japan and other countries. Another will be opened at Central Plaza Pinklao by year-end, with plans to expand to other department stores in the future.
